Description
These three chalets are spread across the top two floors of the delightfully retro three-star Résidence le Grizny. They are made up of adjacent but separate apartments, six occupying the whole upper floor for Juniper, and two on the first floor in Jasmine, while Jacaranda is a two-bedroom first-floor apartment.
The building is unusually spacious and solid, having been built before Val d’Isère’s narrow valley started running out of space.
Juniper has nine bedrooms, ranging from cosy to very large, six bathrooms and separate, sizeable sitting and dining rooms. Two of the cosier rooms are discounted £40 per person per week (rooms 14a & b), while the smallest of all, 14c, has a very special deal: its double bed is sold as a single bed, but if you can inveigle someone into sharing it, they pay half price.
Juniper’s atmosphere is always fun. It tends to appeal to relaxed people, perhaps because from the outside the building looks a bit like a municipal library, or because with just six bathrooms for up to eighteen people they know there’s a certain amount of mucking in. Or maybe anyone uptight is put off by those technicolor baths and basins! But however convivial the dining and sitting rooms become, most guests can escape into the quiet of their own separate apartment (please see the Rooms in order of preference on the main Juniper page of this website).
Jasmine, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, is usually a little more restrained, while Jacaranda offers just two bedrooms and a sitting-dining room, so the fun is down to you. Four friends or a family in their own little chalet, enjoying the famous YSE food without the danger of meeting a ski bore… Heavenly.
And best of all, a week in Juniper, Jasmine or Jacaranda costs less than a dirty weekend in Dorset.
Facility Description
Rooms in order of preference (in our opinion):
Bedroom 6: Twin (13’ x 12’6”). Large room with private bathroom (not en-suite), separate wc and balcony.
Bedroom 5a: Twin (13’ x 12’6”). Large room with balcony, sharing a bathroom and separate wc with Bedroom 5b.
Bedroom 5b: Twin (16’16” x 12’6”). Large room with balcony, sharing a bathroom and separate wc with Bedroom 5a.
Sitting-Dining Room: (16’6” x 12’) next to Bedroom 6. Bright, comfy room with french windows onto the balcony, pretty blue curtains and cushions (not the check ones in the main photo, which clashed with the sofas), and a separate kitchen. WiFi.
