Description
The 'King of the Mountains' fully catered chalet is located in a small French village where you are guaranteed a unique Alpine winter experience and an unforgettable holiday. It is a homely base from which to expore the delights of the French Alps. The emphasis is on comfort, good food and a welcoming atmosphere.
Facility Description
The chalet, a former village school, was built in the 1800's. It is now renovated for the needs of those coming here for mountain sports.
All bedrooms are individually furnished to a high standard and have all the necessary fittings to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Each bedroom has stunning mountain views.
All linen and towels are provided, as well as some basic toiletries.
The main classroom is now converted into a spacious living/dining area with a log burner and many of the original features.
We have a small drying room for kit and boots.
In the cellars beneath the building we have created secure storage for skis, boards and kit.
We have a TV (with some English satellite channels, including all the terrestrial UK channels), a DVD/video player, Hi-Fi and plenty of board games and books. We also hold a small selection of DVDs and CDs, but also please feel free to bring your own.
For people wishing to bring laptops, we have a wireless broadband connection.
To help plan your winter activities we have a selection of guidebooks, piste maps and resort info., as well as leisure guides for the local area.
We offer half board accommodation. Our large, communal dining table is where we serve all meals and a good place to gather and discuss your day in the mountains!
We pride ourselves in providing original, wholesome home cooked meals using the best and freshest ingredients available to us.
Breakfast - we serve hearty breakfasts including porridge, cereals, pastries, yogurts and fresh fruit.
Afternoon tea – with fresh home made cakes every day!
Dinner - 3 courses with wine included (in the case of those staying for 7 nights or more, we take one night off per week from cooking)
Packed lunches - for a small extra charge we can provide a well balanced, high energy packed lunch.
Tea and coffee - available all day.
Location Description
We are perfectly located for quick access to numerous fantastic ski areas such as Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alpesand La Grave, as well as many other lesser-known gems untouched by the larger tour operators. You are, therefore, free to pick one resort for the week or choose to ski several different areas during your stay. With our local knowledge, we can plan the perfect 'ski safari' for you depending upon your ability and what you are looking for from your stay in the mountains.
We are NOT based in one single resort, but we are literally surrounded by some of the best ski areas in France.
Our chalet is in 'Le Rivier d'Ornon', a small hamlet situated between Bourg d'Oisans and the Col d'Ornon, only 10km from the foot of Alpe d'Huez. The narrow streets here are full of French rural charm but are also too narrow even for the snowplough, so, whilst we do get out there regularly with the shovel, access can be tricky for pushchairs, wheelchairs or those with restricted mobility, especially just after a heavy fall of snow.
We recommend that you bring waterproof shoes/boots with a good tread, ideally a walking boot type of shoe and also some cosy slippers for indoors.
If night life is a priority as part of your winter holiday, this may not be the location for you! There are 2 bars nearby (about 2km), but the village here is very quiet - we have to make our own fun!
