Chatel is one of the many resorts included in the 650km that make up Portes du Soleil, arguably the world’s largest lift-linked ski area. Chatel is one of the smaller and more traditional of the resorts which makes it attractive for families and people seeking a break from the après-ski revelers. That’s not to say Chatel doesn’t know how to party; as well as top end French restaurants and live music most nights, there is also a late night bowling ally for those who still have the use of their arms and legs after a hard day’s skiing or boarding.
The accommodation in Chatel perfectly matches the ambience of the place; intimate chalets and small hotels replace the vast apartment blocks of other resorts. Both catered chalets and self-catering chalets can be found here, but due to the low altitude of the village there are no ski-in, ski-out chalets , you must travel by car or bus to get to any of the lifts.
Ski school and childcare are also both well represented in Chatel, making this picturesque alpine village, with its warm south-facing hills and plenty of winter sunshine, perfect for those seeking a little haven to unwind after a hard day on the piste.
